Willoway Nurseries, Inc.

Willoway Nurseries is looking for a Grower to join its Huron, Ohio facility. The Grower would be responsible for a section of nursery production within the 500 acre farm.

Duties Include:

• Daily oversight of a broad range of woody ornamentals.
• Making hands-on decisions for crop maintenance and care.
• Maintaining irrigation systems and watering schedules.
• Maintaining plant health and quality to meet Willoway's standards.

Requirements:

• Basic horticulture understanding required. 2-4 year horticulture degree or equivalent work experience beneficial.
• General knowledge of nursery production practices including plant, pest, and disease ID.
• This position requires outdoor work in all weather conditions on a daily basis.
• Team player, confident, self starter, thorough, detailed, quick learner.
• Work is done in a fast-paced environment and applicant must be flexible and reliable.
• Position does not require Supervision of crews, but applicant must be able to communicate and work well with other employees.

Willoway Nurseries has an immediate opening for a Shipping Department Supervisor at our Huron facility. The Shipping Department at the Huron facility consists of inside and outside docks where full semi loads of live plant material are processed and shipped throughout the country.

Training/Education:

High School GED or equivalent required. Associates Degree or equivalent recommended. Horticulture background highly recommended. Bi-lingual Spanish/ English beneficial, but not required.

Job Responsibilities:

• Coordinate pulling crews for orders and replacement plants as needed.
• Coordinate loading crews to load orders onto corresponding trucks.
• Process truck load paperwork according to company procedures.
• Monitor and oversee quality of shipments of various sizes and varieties of plant material to provide 100% satisfaction to customers.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the dock area.
• Assist crews in loading trucks.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Oversight:
  • 1-2 full time employees in Quality Control Department
  • 1-2 full time truck drivers
  • 2-3 pulling crews (up to 15 seasonal employees)
• The Shipping Supervisor reports to the Farm Manager.

Requirements:

• Must be able to communicate with employees effectively.
• Orders must be processed to company standards with high attention to detail.
• Must be able to manage time efficiently; all orders must be completed each day.
• A flexible work schedule in the spring months (March through June) is required.
• Complete other tasks throughout the nursery as needed.
• Operate farm equipment (tractor trailer, fork lift, loading equipment).
• This position requires outdoor work in all weather conditions on a daily basis.
