Willoway Nurseries, Inc. employs 140 full time employees year-round and has over 400 people in the peak season. The largest part of our staff is dedicated to the production and shipping of plant material. Other opportunities include: equipment repair and fabrication, equipment operation, spray application, building maintenance (including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and boiler maintenance), truck drivers, data entry, and more.

Wages are based upon your experience and skill levels. An excellent benefits program is made available to full-time employees (min. 30 hours per week). Paid vacations are earned after 1 year of full-time employment.

Nursery Grower
Location: Huron, OH

Willoway Nurseries is looking for a full time Grower to join its Huron, Ohio facility. The Grower would be responsible for a section of nursery production within the 500 acre farm.

Duties Include

  • Daily oversight of a broad range of woody ornamentals.
  • Making hands-on decisions for crop maintenance and care.
  • Maintaining irrigation systems and watering schedules.
  • Maintaining plant health and quality to meet Willoway's standards.

Requirements

  • Basic horticulture understanding required. 2-4 year horticulture degree or equivalent work experience beneficial.
  • General knowledge of nursery production practices including plant, pest, and disease ID.
  • This position requires outdoor work in all weather conditions on a daily basis.
  • Team player, confident, self starter, thorough, detailed, quick learner.
  • Work is done in a fast-paced environment and applicant must be flexible and reliable.
  • May require Supervision of small crews, and applicant must be able to communicate and work well with other employees.

Perennial Grower
Location: Avon, OH

Willoway Nurseries, a progressive, forward thinking company, is seeking a full time Grower to join its Avon, OH facility. As Willoway completes its 60th year of business, we are proactively seeking the next generation of horticulture professionals to join our team. Physical Plant General Maintenance Foreman
Location: Avon, OH

Duties

  • Perform preventive maintenance on various nursery / greenhouse equipment, pumps, Machinery and related items
  • Identify equipment maintenance needs
  • Perform routine mechanical, pneumatic and electrical maintenance (lubrication, inspection, replacement parts)
  • Install various nursery / greenhouse equipment, pumps, machinery and related items
  • Building construction – installation of utilities and help with some facets of construction
  • Basic knowledge of controls (PLC's, Drives) is not required but a plus
  • Trouble shoot machinery and equipment

Operations Apprenticeship Program
Location: Avon, OH

Willoway Nurseries, a progressive, forward thinking company, is seeking 2 full time Operations Apprentices to join its Avon or Huron, OH facilities. As Willoway completes its 60th year of business, we are proactively seeking the next generation of horticulture professionals to join our team. Willoway is on the forefront of the industry with technology, marketing, growing techniques and currently practices open book management throughout the company. We are seeking two Operations Apprentices who can positively contribute to the growth of the company with the goal to make this your life long career!

Program Outline

  • Work with Operations Manager and Head Grower for hands on training, learning their responsibilities, day to day activities, project planning, and horticultural growing techniques that meet Willoway's standard of producing high quality plant material.

Duties Include

  • Train and work in Shipping Department with shipping supervisor and crews processing orders and loading trucks for just in time delivery to customers.
  • Train and work in Production Barn with Production Supervisor, crew leader and crew learning day to day operations for production of high quality plant material.
  • Train and work in Container Maintenance including spacing plants, trimming plants, fertilizing and consolidation of plant material, and some basic construction.
  • Learn procedures for seasonal start up and shut down of a wholesale nursery operation.
  • Become a part of Willoway's proactive succession plan as we develop our next generation of employees.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year horticulture-related work experience required. 2 years preferred.
  • Ability to lead and instruct crews.
  • Proactively communicate to crews and manager.

Field / B&B Foreman
Location: Avon, OH

Duties Include

  • Instruct the digging crews for B&B processing.
  • Identify the location of the plant material that is to be processed for the day.
  • Instruct the crews on proper tree handling based on variety prior to digging.
  • Process trees with hydraulic spade.
  • Maintain plant health and quality to meet Willoway's standards.
  • Become a part of Willoway's proactive succession plan as we develop our next generation of employees.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year horticulture-related work experience, nursery experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of nursery production practices including plant, pest, and disease ID.
  • This position requires outdoor work in all weather conditions on a daily basis.
  • Team player, confident, self starter, thorough, detailed, quick learner.
  • Work is done in a fast-paced environment and applicant must be flexible and reliable.
  • Supervision of crews required; applicant must be able to communicate and work well with other employees. Bi-lingual English/Spanish is highly recommended.
