Willoway's greenhouse division consists of approximately 5 acres of either glass houses, or gutter-connected plastic houses. The 30 employees in the division produce seasonal crops and groundcover, as well as fulfilling the nursery's propagation needs.

FROM OUR GREENHOUSE DEPARTMENT

Spring

We grow a wide variety of spring blooming annuals in flats, pots and hanging baskets. These are available from late April through Memorial Day.

We offer many varieties such as Alyssum, Ageratum, Begonia, Caladium, Coleus, Daisy, Dracaena, Geranium, Impatiens, Marigolds, Petunias, Salvia, Snapdragon, and Zinnia to name a few. We also offer popular vegetative selections of blooming annuals including Bacopa, Diascia, Cascading Petunia, Nemesia, New Guinea Impatiens, Verbena, and many more....

Summer & Fall

Our shaded Garden Mum crop in 8" pans are available starting in mid-July and continue through late September. The 12" Terra Pot mums are available in late August through late September and offer an instant effect plant.

Pansies, Cabbage, Kale, as well as Combination Planters are offered in late August through October.

Winter

Poinsettias are offered in traditional colors of red, white, pink and marble. Novelty colors such as Jingle Bells, Salmon, Shimmer Pink, and Cinnamon Star are a few examples if the designer varieties that we grow to give a unique look to your holiday decorations.

What Is New In The Greenhouse Department?

Willoway Nurseries, Inc. has completed its new Huron Ohio growing facility. This five plus acre glass facility was built using the latest technology available. The project was a necessity to meet our increasing customer demands and also to start thinking towards the future in energy conservation. This new facility will grow the nurseries propagation crops, seasonal color crops, perennials, groundcovers as well as our tropical crops. The systems installed include:

Flood Floor Irrigation-
Controlled in 52 individual zones used for targeted root zone watering and maximize water conservation.
Boomerang Basket System-
This creates a 2nd tier growing area for approximately 20,000 baskets or hanging plants.
Black out & Shading Curtain Systems-
Used in growing light sensitive crops and hold in daytime heat saving approx 40% in fuel costs
and conserving energy.
Hurst Bio Mass Boiler System-
Energy conservation, efficiency and environmental friendly heating was the primary goal. This system is currently running on waste wood, and corn using available waste bi-products. This is a very energy efficient heating system and is also friendly to the environment utilizing waste wood or green crops in a high heat burn. The Bio Mass boiler is backed up by traditional heating boilers but our goal is to work towards reducing the need for coal and natural gas fuel systems.
Computer Controlled Access-
The system is operated on site and off site. This gives the grower maximum control of the growing
conditions and greenhouse operations.
