Salary: $35,000.00 to $48,000.00 /year


The Grower will be accountable for all operational aspects for the growing department for our Hilliard, OH location. The ideal candidate would have 2+ years of previous nursery supervision experience and strong attention to detail. The candidate must also have excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.

Requirements:

  • 2- 4 year University Degree or College Diploma- Horticulture Related Field or certificate program completion
  • Successful completion of Pesticide Applicator Course (or willing to obtain)
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory level experience in a nursery/greenhouse, landscape, horticulture or agriculture setting
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Programs
  • Competent problem solver and decision maker
  • Nursery/Grower certifications a plus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall plant production and quality of finished plant product (20 acres)
  • Responsible for liaison with sales department

Skills and Abilities:

  • Plant production and growing
  • Landscape Plant ID (Ohio Woody Ornamentals, Perennials, Shrubs, and Trees)
  • Understanding of process of purchasing plants, fertilizer, chemicals etc. with input from management and sales team
  • Oversee watering, fertilizing, and spraying
  • Fiscal accountability for reports and statistics
  • Corporate accountability for successful plant production, growing, and overall quality of finished plant material
  • Analyze overall production and make recommendations to increase efficiencies and quality
  • Responsible for the direction of staff (direct 1-4 employees with additional multiple responsibilities to carry out production related tasks)
  • Outline and communicate expectations
  • Schedule staff to complete departmental requirements
  • Assess performance of staff involved in growing and communicate to higher level executives
  • Manage employee department related issues and ensure policies and procedures are being adhered to
  • Participate in business meetings and educational events
  • Provide input into crop problems (pest and disease management, nutrient management, etc)
  • Forecasting and budgeting for plant production and inventory departments
  • Responsible for Administrative Duties as related to the success of the position
  • Assist Operations Manager, Store Manager, and Owners in business planning
  • Preparation of reports and adherence to policies, procedures and budgets
  • Deal with suppliers, government agencies, consultants, sales personnel, and other company officials
  • Participate in company open book management and Great Game of Business culture

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE POSITION:

Hours can be long at specific times of the year. Average of 2200 hours worked per year
