Large, showy white flower heads with intensely sweet fragrance dangle from the bush in August. The flowers mature into round fruits each containing hundreds of nutlike seeds that are eaten by birds. The flowers are magnets for butterflies and hummingbirds. Tolerates wet soil, thriving in bogs and along ponds, in part sun or full sun.
