Ficus carica 'Violet De Bordeaux'

Ficus carica ‘Violet de Bordeaux’ is a highly desirable French fig cultivar prized for both its gourmet fruit and ornamental qualities. Naturally dwarf in habit, this variety is especially suited for container production and urban edible landscapes—an ideal fit for today’s demand for compact, multi-purpose plants.

The tree produces abundant crops of small-to-medium elongated fruit, with dark violet-black skin and luscious strawberry-red flesh. Flavor is rich, sweet, and complex, often considered among the best-tasting figs. A reliable “breba” crop arrives early in the season, followed by the main harvest in early to mid-autumn.

Growers benefit from its manageable size, fine-textured foliage, and strong retail presentation. Its narrower, deeply lobed leaves set it apart visually from other figs, giving it a refined, ornamental appeal. Hardy in Zones 7–10, ‘Violet de Bordeaux’ requires protection in colder climates but remains an outstanding option for both garden centers and landscapers.
