A tough-but-graceful, spring-flowering shrub that is native to certain mountainous areas of China and Japan. The wide, slender, arching, yellowish-green stems remain an attractive green in winter. Single, five-petaled, rose-like, yellow bloom somewhat profusely in spring. The double-toothed, narrow, ovate-lanceolate, bright green leaves turn yellow in the fall.
