Wisteria sinensis is a vigorous, large-scale deciduous vine prized for its dramatic spring floral display. In May, established vines produce cascading 6–12" racemes of mildly fragrant blue-violet blooms in a simultaneous, showstopping flush that few flowering vines can match. Growing 10–25' or more, it is ideally suited to sturdy pergolas, arbors, trellises, and terrace walls where its twisted, trunk-like stems develop impressive structural character over time. Deer and drought tolerant once established. Hardy Zones 5–8. Important note for retailers: Chinese wisteria is considered invasive across much of the eastern and midwestern US and is listed as a noxious weed in several states. Retailers should verify local regulations before stocking and clearly communicate responsible siting guidance to customers at point of sale.
